Press Release – Imagine Monkland

Montreal – Monday, August 12th, 2024 – Imagine Monkland will be the talk of the town in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce from August 22nd to 25th, 2024! The event celebrates its comeback after a 5-year hiatus. Organized by the borough of Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grâce and in collaboration with the NDG Business Association, Biz NDG; Imagine Monkland will be a weekend-long closed-street event focused on encouraging residents to experience and enjoy Monkland Avenue in a whole new way. The event aims to showcase the area’s commercial offering while featuring varied programming aligned with Monkland Avenue’s image and character. Check out Imagine Monkland’s Facebook and Instagram pages for all the details!
Monkland Avenue will be closed for traffic between Melrose and Girouard. Many merchants will set up exhibits to promote the sector’s unique commercial landscape. Everyone in the neighborhood is invited to discover or rediscover their favourite spots. Over 35 businesses and more than a dozen community organizations from the sector will be present and will offer a wide range of products and services to the public.
A number of local artists will be performing live throughout the event to add to the festivities. Street furniture and a family zone will also be set up for the little one’s enjoyment. Many surprises are planned as part of the event’s activities. Follow our Facebook Page Event to get all the details.
The Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough, in collaboration with the NDG business association, Biz NDG, is bringing back the event that was a great success with NDG residents and surrounding neighborhoods during its last edition in 2018. The concept stems from a collective desire for increased community support and responds to the main mission of the two event collaborators: to contribute, through their initiatives, to promoting the economic and cultural development of the community by creating a sustainable, attractive, safe and entertaining environment.
“I am delighted to announce, with Biz NDG, the return of the pedestrianization of Monkland Avenue this year. Imagine Monkland is an opportunity to get together, to discover our neighbourhood and its shops in a new way, and to experience soft mobility in complete safety. I would like to emphasize that this event is possible thanks to the close collaboration between the borough’s services, our administration, Biz NDG, and Monkland Avenue business owners. Together, we have been able to create a pedestrianization project that benefits the entire community. I am excited to rediscover Monkland as a pedestrian destination with you!,” says Mayor Gracia Kasoki Katahwa.
“The return of Imagine Monkland is being met with incredible enthusiasm by our businesses, residents, local organizations and our community as a whole. Biz NDG is proud to collaborate once again with our borough on a major project aimed at driving the socio-economic and cultural development of our sector,” declares Marc Chriqui, General Manager of Biz NDG.
Monkland Avenue will be closed to traffic between Melrose and Girouard avenues from Wednesday, August 21st at 9:00 pm, until Monday, August 26th at 4:00 am. Please plan your travel accordingly. For further information, please refer to the event’s Facebook page
